I am 15 and got a colostomy in emergency surgury after my intestens ruptured. I get lots of advice about the colostomy but it's all from people so much older than me, I just wanted to know if there was any teens around?

I had an ileostomy at the age of 13 as a result of UC after many years of flare-ups so I know all about the 'ups-and-downs' of having one of these during your teenage years so feel free to ask about that. When I was 18 I had a J-Pouch construction followed several months later by the final 'connection' and all has gone fantastically since then [apart from the hospital induced wound infections, dirty places are hospitals].
I'm now 20 so if you're a younger ostomate / J-Poucharian and looking for advice please say hello, or any age for that matter!

i'm posting this topic in hopes of finding some others out there around my age that i can bitch, whine and complain about... as well as discuss.. life and living with a colostomy bag. no discrestion, any type of ostomate.. if that's the way to describe someone with an ostomy is welcome, but i preferably am searching for others with a colostomy.

I am a bit late responding to this, but would like to extend a warm welcome and a heartfelt invite to the Young Adult group of the UOAA. I am involved in that and it has made a world of difference to me. Though I am not in the specified "age" category, I am in my early 30's, I still feel that it is a great place for me as I don't really fit in the "old" nor the "young".
Anyway, they YODAA group is for those ages 20-35 and it is great for resources and support. We just had a conference in Cleveland and it was all JUST US. One would have called it "party haven" others would have called it, best friend central.
Please take some time to check out the message board forum for the YODAA group on the uoaa message board. (if you have not already, I have not been there in a couple of days). Introduce yourself and remember, you are not alone, and there are many on there from texas.

welcome.

James

Hey everybody! I'm 24 now, had mine for a year and was just curious as to who is younger in the crowd and is interested in talking. I'm new here but am interested in talking to the younger crowd on issues such as relationships. (not just younger, older too although they probably aren't as shy about it...or are you?) I've used i think just about every product out there for colostomy goodies so if you're interested in chatting, email me!

Older Members who had an ostomy at a young age

Several of our "older" members have had their ostomies since childhood, and so went through their teens and early adulthood with an ostomy and do know what it's like to cope.

Shaz

Shaz was 10 when she had her ileostomy.
http://ostomyland.com/phpBB/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=12

Simon

Simon was 4 when he had his urostomy - he is in his early 30's now so still qualifies as a younger ostomate.

Kathy From England

Kathy was 27 when she became a caregiver to her husband (ileostomy).
