Ostomyland Chat Room.

Author: Jason D. - Owner/Webmaster, Ostomyland.com

14th September 2009 – NEW FEATURE - We’ve got a great new way to access our chat room, that is by far the easiest way we’ve ever had for our visitors to join us in chat, especially if you are a member of our message board! Simply log in to our message board with your account, and click the new CHAT ROOM tab in the menu, and you’ll be taken straight into the chat room and logged in using your existing message board username as your chat room nickname! How easy is that! It’s all thanks to an integrated Java chat client called “pjIRC”.

NB: We still have the links to our old “JPILOT IRC” Java Chat client available further down this page for those that still like to use that.

So please pop over to our new message board and try our new one-click access to the chat room. Registration is quick, free and easy, if you aren’t already a member. I look forward to seeing you there! The URL of our message board is:

http://www.ostomyland.org/ostomyboardipb/

Condition of use:
By accessing the chat room, you acknowledge that you have read and accept the medical disclaimer and chatroom logging statements contained within the red box towards the bottom of this page.

Dedication: This chat room is dedicated with all our love to Alva Roberts. Her strength was an inspiration to us all, and she is dearly missed by everyone. The Ostomyland Community has lost one of her finest members.

Weekly Meeting:
8pm GMT-UK (3pm EST-USA) For full details of the meeting, please click here.

Also Open 24/7:
for Impromptu Support and Off-Topic Chat To chat right now, simply choose the size of chat window you would like to use. If you are unsure of what the sizes mean, click the Screenshot link next to each choice, and you’ll see a full size screenshot of that chat page. NB: Both the Chat Pages and the Screenshots open in pop-up windows so please disable your pop-up blocking software if necessary.

If you can’t connect to the Chat:
If you can’t connect first time, try a different server from the drop-down menu.
Not sure how to do this? Help and advice is available in our Chat Room Help and FAQ Forum.
(mIRC help is there too!)

Medical Disclaimer:
By entering the Ostomyland chat room you acknowledge that you understand and agree to the following important information… The Ops and Users of this chat room are NOT doctors or medically trained, therefore ALL advice offered to people in this chat room is done so on the understanding that it is your responsibilty to confirm it accuracy and suitabilty for your condition/problem BEFORE acting on it with a member of your own medical team. If the doctor disagrees with the advice given then you should always take their advice over ours, as they have your medical notes to hand, and know your medical history. We can only offer generalised advice which is always offered in good faith, and is usually based on the chat-users personal experience as an ostomist, or as a close relative of one.

Logging:
Chat room activity is logged at all times for security purposes – we NEVER share them, and only the two senior channel operatives have access to them (myself and Kathy_From_England)., however private messages are never logged, its not possible to do so. Random quotes from the chat room may appear in our Statistics page if you are one of the top 25 most talkative users. Details of the statistics page can be found just above this red box.

Channel and Meeting details
The chat room is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for Ostomy help, support and conversation. Off topic conversation is more than welcome, especially when we’re not having the weekly meeting.

If you have questions about life with a stoma or anything to do with this website you can talk them through with us and anyone else in the #ostomyland channel every Saturday night at 8pm UK time (Either GMT or BST (GMT+1)) depending on the time of year and daylight savings time).

Aside from the chat room is also open 24/7 for impromptu support and idle banter, with regulars just hanging out in there and having fun together. You are welcome to join us.

If you are unsure of the UK time please click on the “Join the Chat Room Now” link above and on that page you will see a clock which always shows the UK time.

To enter the channel, just follow the instructions and links at the top of this page.

Important Notice:
Please don’t forget! By accessing the chat room you acknowledge that you have read and understand the medical disclaimer and chat room logging statements as listed further up this page in the red box. Thanks! :-)

See you there! :-)
