The buy a bag program is set up to help people keep the dignity and self worth after their ostomy surgeries.
Every bag bought is made and sent to Major Hospitals for patients who have just had surgery and to help them with their self cofidence as they adjust to the apperance of the stoma and appliances.”

Melissa’s Story In her Own Words:
http://www.ostomycovers.com/page12
I am a 41 year old mother of 2, grandmother of 5. I started sewn ostomy covers for myself shortly after my surgery. Shortly after usen my bag’s I opened Nana’s Ostomy Covers. and then after a few visits to my doctor’s and seeing my ostomy nurse and talking with them, I started the Buy a Bag Program.
Nana’s Ostomy Covers and the Buy a Bag Program is a 1 person company, All bag are sewn personaly by myself. So, I keep pretty busy in the sewing room and shopping for fabric. The Buy a Bag Program, I do not profit from the Buy a Bag Program, my time spent sewn the bags is my way of giving back, as my surgery saved my life and gave life back to me.
I am also, an ileostomate. It means that I have had my large bowel removed and I now have a stoma (meaning “man-made opening”) and wear a pouch or bag that I attach to the side of my abdomen over my stoma to collect the waste products.
It is similar to a colostomy, which you may have heard of (except in a colostomy only part of the large bowel is removed – and the stoma is made from the colon.
Both surguries leave a patient wearing a bag system.
Thanks for visiting,
Melissa
