Hi Keith! Mr Bean, lol. That made me laugh. I'm about to take up swimming again for the for the first time since I had the operation so it will be interesting to see how it goes (had my op 13 years ago though) and have only been maybe twice since I had it, but I've decided to take it up again. If you have the colostomy for life now, or for a very long time, it might be possible that in the future they could change the location of the stoma for you so that it doesnt catch your beltline quite so much. Its something to consider asking the surgeon about next time you see him, anyways.

I would agree it as a positive piece of information for all curretn and future ostomy pouch wearers.
However, I do think ladies have it a little easier from a dress point of view. I've found it difficult to get a compromise since getting back to work between smart office wear my job requires and comfort and practicality, especially regarding not blocking off the bag with trouser waistlines. Oh to be able to wear my shirt out all the time like a lady does a blouse!
In casual wear, pouch covers have saved me the self consciousness of the bag being seen by offereing discreet camouflage.
Swimming is another matter entirely. I've bought some shorts from CUI that come up to the bottom of my ribs. I feel like Mr Bean in the swimming pool.I can't imagine ladies with colostoimies or ileostomies (which is what I have) wearing a bikini. Nor can I imagine the one-piece for men coming backinto fashion!
Still, it there to be overcome, and I'm going two or three times a week so I'll probably stop worrying about it soon!

Hi Debbie. I'm sorry to hear that you didnt get your check from the company. That is so disappointing. There has been a huge glut of ostomy research projects tempting people to take part in their research, and some of them have sounded rather dubious. I thought this one sounded one of the more genuine ones. I'm so sorry you didnt get your money. :(

I spent 20 minutes helping these people do their research several months ago and never received the $30. I'll be contacting the Better Business Bureau shortly to report the fraudulent promises of this research company.

Hi Noah.

You could try doing a MEDLINE search for information. Medline is a database of all the various worldwide surgical journals articles. The articles themselves generally cost money to read or need a subscription, but the search result can generate a run down of what the article is saying, and that in itself can be useful. There are various Medline search sites out on the net, a search for Medline on google will give you some links.

As for what to search you could try searching for the surgeons name, "Williams, NS", as I would bet an article or two has been written about this procedure in the medical journals, probably by the surgical team itself (my surgeon at St Marks [also based in London] has written loads of medical journal reports on surgery and research etc. Or try search terms such as "Pelvic Floor Reconstruction" or "Bowel Management" and so on.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Hmm this is really an interesting idea, and it totally revolutionizes treatment for people with bowel or even bladder problems. I would like to do more research on this idea,
Where would u reccomend I look for more information on the concept i.e. procedure. any info or link to info would be apprecieted.
Thanks,
NoahK

I have had a colostomy for 5 years and for that time I have irrigated very successfully. Just recently after irrigation and following breakfast I have had an output as though all the water has not left my bowel. This only happens occasionally and I have no other symptoms. any suggestions you irrigators?
