Hi there everyone,
As you may know I’m in the process of getting the lifestyle guide on the main site printed, and I’m giving the “What does a Stoma look like” section a bit of a revamp, including pictures of my own colostomy stoma, and other peoples colostomy stomas. However, I’m also wanting to include a photo of a Urostomy stoma and Ileostomy stoma. I’ve got the Uro one, but I’m still needing an Ileostomy one.
If you think your ileo stoma looks pretty much like a text book stoma (ie how the average stoma looks, and has no problems with it etc) and would like to send your photo through for submission please send the photo to me – webmaster at ostomyland dot com – most importantly please include if you want your name associated with the photo, and also the size of the stoma (width, height and how much it protrudes).
I’ve only got room for one ileo photo at the moment, so if more than one is sent then I’ll pick the best based on how it appears in greyscale etc and if space allows i’ll include some more (if they are sent).
If you can help at all please let me know as I’ll be in a bind without one!
Thanks very much folks!

The latest edition of the Salts Medilink Linkline newsletter is out now. This June 2010 edition focuses solely on the launch of Salts Secuplast mouldable seals. Samples of the products have also been sent with the mail shot.
Having had a play with the seals for the last couple of days I have to say that the SecuPlast mouldable seals is one of the best products I’ve tried in it’s product category. The seal is incredibly mouldable, absorbant and secure yet being easy to remove after use. Anyone who is experiencing leaks – especially Ileostomates or any ostomate with a sloppy output – should give them a try, and I know that I will be recommending them in such cases in the future.
Available in three different sizes, the seals are designed and distributed by Salts. For more information and samples visit the salts website’s SecuPlast product page.
If you wish to be placed on the Salts Medilink Linkline distribution list to receive future newsletters you can subscrobe for the digital edition of the newsletter at: http://linkline.news2blog.co.uk/
Some UK ostomates may have heard from their home delivery firms that Cohesive Seals are no longer available. Regardless of this news Pelican Healthcare wish to make it known that Cohesive Seals are still available, and they have ample stocks available to supply. So, you do not need to change your prescription for any other equivalent product, unless you specifically wish to do so.
In a newsletter posted out to Pelican customers, Paul Eakin – Managing Director said: “Cohesive is manufactured by T.G. Eakin Limited, a sister company to Pelican Healthcare in the Eakin Group. The change of distribution to one of our own companies represents a kind of coming home for Cohesive and everyone at Pelican is very excited about making the product available to you.”
From May 1st there will be a slight change in the packaging of Cohesive Seals as well. These are purely aesthetic changes to the packaging only and the product is exactly the same as before.
Should you have any difficulties getting Cohesive Seals, or have any queries regarding its use please phone Pelican Healthcare direct on Free-phone: 0800 318282 (UK Only). Business hours are 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
The Ostomistics is a Peterborough (UK) based ostomy support group. Yesterday (Sunday) they were given an opportunity to broadcast their own radio show for an hour on local radio station Peterborough FM. With a mix of music, chat and ostomy related matters, the show has surely taken a huge step forward towards achieving it’s goal of raising awareness in the community of ostomies, and to set the record straight over various ostomy myths.
If you missed the show, or weren’t within range of the Peterborough FM transmission, never fear because thanks to the wonders of live internet-based radio streams we’ve been able to record the show (with permission) and are sharing it with our readers.

ConvaTec’s Vitala? CCD is an exceptionally innovative, non-intrusive device that provides temporary continence to individuals with an end colostomy. This unique technology, developed and patented by ConvaTec, allows individuals to manage their colostomy without a pouch, belt or irrigation. Indicated for use up to 8 hours, Vitala? CCD is a single-use, disposable disc which is worn together with the ConvaTec Natura® skin barrier (1-3/4″ or 2-1/4″).
This innovative pouchless ostomy device functions by sealing against the stoma to prevent release of stool while permitting gasses to vent through an integrated, deodorizing filter. When in use, stool is stored inside the body, negating the need to wear an ostomy pouch. The unique design of Vitala? CCD not only eliminates the need for a pouch for an extended period of time each day, it also minimizes the noise and odors that occasionally accompany pouch use.
For more information about the Vitala? Continence Control Device, please contact the ConvaTec customer information center at 1-800-422-8811.
I just want to take this chance to wish everyone who is going to this weekend’s Breakaway visit at the YHA centre at the National Forest, an absolutely fabulous time. May lots of fun and laughs be had, and lots of friendships forged.
Ostomyland will also be attending the event. Our very own Kathy_from_England will be there for the weekend to doss about… um, sorry, represent Ostomyland, and will be attending the exhibition to spread the word about the Oland site and community. Be sure to grab one of our leaflets while there!

It is reported that around 120,000 people in the UK suffer from Crohn’s disease. For years patients have been hoping for a cure for this disease, and finally it seems one may have been found thanks to a pioneering stem cell treatment which has been tested and produced some very positive results.
A 21 year old student from Devonhas been one of the first to undergo the procedure.
