Convatec currently have a competition running for UK ostomates where you can win a weekend away for two which will be tailor-made especially for the winner! Sounds cool to me! To enter you just need contact the ConvaTec UK customer helpline on 0800 834 822 to register your details. Alternatively you can register your details on the ConvaTec UK website. If your details are already entered, dont panic, you can still be entered just be phoning to check your details are correct.
Best of all though, if you register yourself and refer another ostomate to ConvaTec then you both get entered into the draw meaning you both could win a weekend away with your respective partners.
The ConvaTec customer support line is a great source of ostomy info and help on subjects such as:
- How to keep fit
- Dietary advice – healthy cooking and eating
- How to wear the latest fashion
- Advice on intimacy and relationship issues
Julie and Rach are organising next year’s BreakAway, which will consist of two main weekends and an Xmas party. They need some help to reach the new families.
Can you help them by printing off their poster and handing it to your hospital or giving it to your stoma nurse please?
(If you’re not in the UK but know anyone who is and could help, please give them the link).
Not only will Julie and Rach appreciate your help, but so will any little kiddies and their families who see the poster.
Thank you!

Ostomy pouch covers can be quite useful at times. They can be used to help prevent chaffing during hot days, or used to hide the pouch during intimate moments, and they can also be useful to help children adjust to their pouches appearance by using fabric featuring their favourite cartoon characters.
Little Green Monster is a small UK company that specialises in making bespoke, custom made pouch covers to jazz up your pouch. And unlike most pouch covers which are made in a general “one size fits all” format that’s usually too big, the Little Green Monster covers are made using your own pouch style as the template.
For more information on their pouch covers service check out their page in our manufacturers/ostomy companies section.

Hi everyone, Fuzzbutt here again. I’m Ostomyland’s furry mascot and I often like to bring you my ostomy top tips, and my pick of the message board posts. And now, I’m pleased to be able to say I’ve got a whole new feature – my favourite member blogs! Although the blogs have only been active for a couple of weeks now, we already have some excellent Ostomy related blogs developing, and there’s one in particular I’d like to tell you about.
Janet Mitchell is posting a blog about her daughter Charlene’s journey through Crohns and her new diverting Ileostomy that was performed on September 11th 2009. To date their blog has featured stories about dealing with the highs such as successful showering; positive appointments with doctors; her first journey on the school bus for many years, and more … But she also talks about the lows too such as nighttime nausea and so on.
12 year old Charlene is an inspiration to us all, but her Mom is equally as important in this story, as the blog also focuses on the trials and tribulations of being a parent to a child with an Ileostomy.

3rd October 2009… hey, thats today! It’s World Ostomy Day 2009 and many national ostomy associations are doing public events to themed to celebrate the day. The theme of this years event is “Reaching Out” be it to the general public to enhance their awareness of the ostomy associations and their vital work, or to the Ostomates themselves who maybe didn’t realise such associations existed to help them.
Here in the UK, the Birmingham Bullring is hosting an awareness event, featuring stands from many companies and associations. And, thanks to Julie at Breakaway, Ostomyland leaflets will be circulating the stalls too!

Ostomy Secrets has recently celebrated it’s first anniversary. Founded by ileostomate and Crohn’s patient, Lisa Becker, Ostomy Secrets is a company that carries “men’s and women’s underwear, intimacy wraps, sport wraps and swim wraps” and their products are available for dispatch worldwide.
It’s been a very successful first year in business for them and they are building a sound customer base who often wish that they’d “found out about [Ostomy Secrets] sooner!”. They were even recently featured on Fox News which I’m insanely jealous about as I’d love that to happen for Oland lol! You can see the Fox News feature on Ostomy Secrets below thanks to the wonders of You Tube.
You can contact Ostomy Secrets via their website, or phone them on 800-518-8515, or you can email them! And when you do contact Lisa, dont forget to ask for your copy of the free Ostomy Secrets newsletter!
Congratulations from Ostomyland on your first anniversary Lisa!
