The new look Ostomyland website has been live for a few months now, during which time I’ve been hard at work bringing all other parts of the Ostomyland experience up to date too. Today its the turn of the Ostomyland Java Chat Client. Graphically it’s been brought into line with the main websites theme, and a couple of changes have been made to the individual client pages as per requests of the users.
Namely, this is links to other parts of the Ostomyland site, and to the stats page, so that you dont have to leave the client page to access the links. I’ve also taken the opportunity to upgrade the software to it’s latest version which fixes a few bugs in the code and should hopefully make the whole chat room experience a better experience.
Most importantly though, I’ve jiggled the server list entries about a bit, and changed the default server to irc.fdf.net instead of irc.fef.net to try and make sure that more people can access the chat room on the first connection attempt instead of having to wait through a series of failed connections due to the many out-dated server entries that were on the previous list of servers.
This Java Chat client update does not affect the mIRC/X-Chat/IRC-Client users, however those who are using the Ostomyland mIRC Script may want to check the server it connects to, and change it to irc.fdf.net (port 6667) if it shows as irc.fef.net. This should hopefully give you a more reliable connection on the first attempts. An updated Ostomyland mIRC Scipt version is also in the works, and I hope to have that available as soon as possible.
Don’t forget that the chat room is open for business 24/7 for impromptu support, or off topic chat. If no one is around at the time, or if everyone is marked as away or asleep please come back a few hours later. On top of this, there is the always-popular weekly support-meeting which is every saturday at 8pm UK Time onwards (3pm ET onwards for our USA friends)
